Elvio is an artist who is in constant conflict between conservatism and innovation, which often ends in absurdity. Elvio was born in Argentina and has Chilean roots. When he was five years old, began intensive training in Argentine folklore dance and tango in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. At the age of fourteen, he began to study contemporary dance at the Fundacion Julio Boca in Buenos Aires. In 2010 he came to Switzerland and completed the "Advanced Studies in Modern Dance" at the University of the Arts in Zurich. This was followed by a Bachelor's degree in Physical Theatre at the Accademia Dimitri, which he successfully completed in 2013.
In 2019, he completed a master's degree in "Expanded Theatre" at the Bern University of the Arts. In 2020 Elvio was choreographer for the play "Salt" at the Lucerne Theatre in Lucerne. With his last piece "Mi vida en Transito", he won PREMIO, the Swiss Young Talent Award for Dance and Theatre, in 2021. The piece is a documentary theatre piece about depression and suicide in the context of masculinity. The play was also selected for the 9th Swiss Theatertreffen 2022 and in 2023 "mi vida en Transito" was invited to the Impulse Theatre Festival Showcase in Düsseldorf, as one of 10 plays in German-speaking countries. The play has also been shown at Südpol Luzern, Schlachthaus Theater Bern, Theater Chur, Gogogo Festival at Grütli in Geneva, Far Festival Nyon, ROXY Birsfelden and Theater am Gleis in Winterthur.
Elvio is currently working between Switzerland and Argentina on his next stage project “Umarmung" (Hug) which will premiere at the Far Festival in Nyon in summer 2024. He is part of the Extra Time Plus programme of Südpol Luzern and part of love+bytes and drag+drop: digital artists in residence between FHNW Basel and Schlachthaus Theater Bern.
